Chapter 32

The victim of less ...

"In the current state, we cannot fight. We must flee," Duke shouted.

Glenervan looked hatefully at the WYVERN. He had not forgotten that they had shot at him. He looked at Astaroth. The black dragon shook his head.

Glenervan nodded. Astaroth was right. They had no chance like this.

He looked at Alexander Alcazar, who was still sitting disillusioned on the ground.

Was this supposed to be the great liberator? Glenervan turned around and shouted at the helmsman. "GO! GET OUT OF HERE!"

The helmsman flinched and looked at Alexander. "You have a choice. Listen to him and die, or listen to me and survive!" Glenervan looked hard at the helmsman.

He nodded and gave the commands.

The ASCENSION began to move. It may no longer be capable of fighting, but it was still fast. Ascendary stepped in front of Glenervan and made soft sounds.

Glenervan knelt down and nodded.

"You... you understand him?" Duke asked.

"What does that mean?" Athena asked.

"He understands the griffin language but that's not possible!" Duke stared at Glenervan.

"Why?" Marianne asked.

"Because only griffin knights understand this language." Glenervan stood up and saluted like a griffin knight.

Duke stared at him, then returned the salute. "I thought no one but me survived the DENERIAS INCIDENT," Duke stammered.

Glenervan turned back to Ascendary and the two communicated in a barely perceptible language.

Danny and Cecile arrived.

"The WYVERN is releasing its Nexus wyverns!" Cecile shouted.

"We have to fend them off!" Danny grabbed his bow and ran to the back of the ship to get ready. Cecile followed him.

Athena and Leander kissed once more, then Athena also ran to the back. Leander stayed with Marianne.

Glenervan stood up.

"It's very risky, but we have no other choice," he said softly.

"What is risky?" asked Marianne.

"Sedalia!" shouted Glenervan.

Sedalia came over.

"We need your powers," said Glenervan.

"Why?" asked Sedalia.

Before Sedalia could react, Glenervan touched her forehead with his hand.

The hand lit up.

Sedalia took a step back and gasped for air.

Glenervan had transferred the knowledge of Ascendary to her.

Sedalia stared at Glenervan, looked at Marianne, back at Glenervan, and nodded."GO!" she shouted, pointing at Marianne.

Before the surprised Marianne protector Leander could react, he collapsed unconscious to the ground.

Behind him stood Glenervan. His hand was glowing.

"What, what is this?" shouted Marianne.

"It had to be. He cannot come with us. Besides, I need something from him right away," said Sedalia, walking to the center of the ship and settling into a meditation position. She spread her arms, and slowly the air began to shimmer.

"Where to?" asked Marianne, stepping back.

Ascendary nudged her and pressed gently against her.

Glenervan approached Astaroth and patted his head. "Here our paths diverge, my friend." A tear left Astaroth's eye, and then he nodded.

"You! Take good care of him. Become a good team," Glenervan said to Duke, who, like Marianne, did not understand what was happening.

Glenervan saluted Duke once more. "It was a honor, Griffin Knight!"

Duke returned the salute.

Glenervan extended his hand to Marianne. "Please trust me." Marianne hesitated, looked at Ascendary and nodded.

She took his hand and they stepped into Sedalia's magical circle.

Ascendary pressed against Duke once more, who gradually began to understand. This ... was a farewell!

He hugged the griffin, whom he had raised like his child, once more, and tears slid down his face.

Sedalia made a gesture and small lights rose from Leander's unconscious body, slowly floating towards her.

Ascendary ran to Glenervan and Marianne.

Athena fended off a Nexus wyvern and then saw Leander lying on the ground. And Marianne.

"No!" she cried and started to run towards the center of the ship.

Glenervan spread his arms and spoke words in an ancient language. Athena continued to run towards Marianne. A flash of light, and the three figures disappeared.

Marianne, Glenervan, and Ascendary were gone.

Sedalia's body fell lifeless to the ground.

Leander jolted awake. "What the..."

Astaroth seized Duke and threw him on his back.

Sedalia's body began to glow.

Astaroth moved back and then grabbed Danny and Cecile and threw them on his back as well.

Sedalia's body started to burn.

Astaroth rose into the air.

Sedalia's fire spread rapidly across the ship, burning everything and everyone in its path. Athena and Leander burned before they realized what was happening. And with them, the entire crew and also Alexander Alcazar, who was still sitting apathetically on the ground.

Seconds passed, then the Ascension turned into a massive fireball. The fire took many Nexuswyverns with it, and the fire also reached the WYVERN.

Immediately, it began to burn and then exploded with a huge bang as the fire reached the ammunition supplies.

The legendary ship perished in a fireball.

The burning debris rained down over the land and caused much damage.

Astaroth landed amidst the wreckage on the ground.

Duke, Cecile, and Danny looked around in shock. In front of them, flames formed a body that slowly took shape.

It was Sedalia.

Tears ran down her face. The phoenix inside her settled down again.

"Why?" asked Duke.

"So that many can live, sometimes a few must die," Sedalia said with a broken voice.

Elsewhere, Glenervan, Marianne, and Acendary appeared.

They stood on a mountain.

Marianne stared down.

Below the mountain stood 2 armies.

One of them was made up of ... griffins.

Glenervan took a deep breath.

"Welcome to the ONE Day. The day that changed everything. Welcome to the DENERIAS INCIDENT!"
